About enigma
enigma was founded in 1999 by a group of publishing professionals to fill a vacuum in quality book publishing:
to publish in the United States major titles in contemporary history;
enigma wants to provide access to those very important texts for the serious reader, the student and the scholar;
Some books are true classics of contemporary history in every sense of the word, time has not reduced any of their compelling importance and a new updated edition reinforces their message;
enigma's European presence makes it possible to translate very important titles that publishers have hitherto not translated into English.

Welcome to the Academic Center of Enigma Books, publishers of significant works of 20th century history for readers, students, and scholars.
Our titles are recommended for adoption at the high school and college level. You will also find instructions on how to obtain exam and desk copies.
- Exam Copy Requests (for books being considered for course adoption)
- Hardcover books: Please submit your request on school letterhead, along with a check or money order (payable to Enigma Books) for $10.00 to the address below. Allow 2-3 weeks for delivery.
- Paperback books: Please submit your request on school letterhead, along with a check or money order (payable to Enigma Books) for $5.00 (to cover shipping and handling) to the address below. Allow 2-3 weeks for delivery.
- Desk Copy Requests (for books that have already been adopted)
- For both Paperback and Hardcover books: Please submit your request on school letterhead, listing the title of the course for which you will be using the book and the enrollment. If possible, please include a copy of the order placed at your college bookstore for students' copies. The charge for desk copies is $15.00 (includes shipping and handling). Requests can be mailed to the address below, faxed to 212-575-9104, or emailed to editor@enigmabooks.com. Allow 3-4 weeks for delivery.
